Educational Objectives

The goal of this activity is to educate the listener about issues in coagulation. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Utilize periprocedural anticoagulation to minimize the risk for major bleeding and thromboembolic events.
2. Identify patients for whom bridging anticoagulation therapy during surgery is indicated.
3. Review the clinical features of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).
4. Diagnose patients with HIT.
5. Discuss new agents for managing coagulopathy during emergency surgery.
